Although the video is 34 minutes long, the duration/PD hours on the certificate is 1½ hours to allow you time to complete the tasks within and consider how you will integrate what you have learnt into your teaching.
This course is ideal if you teach mixed-ability classes and want to introduce some issue-based work into your curriculum.
Materials Required: Scissors, craft knife, stapler, some old packaging for a cover, glue. You also need to print the accompanying resources that become available when you purchase. You will need these to complete the tasks within the course.

My name is Elena and I teach middle school art in Washington state.
This video includes a thoughtful , engaging and comprehensive history of zines, followed by a hands-on workshop to make several types of zines! Make sure you have enough time set aside, and be sure to print the zine templates before you get started!
I took notes furiously, which is so rare for me. All that is to say, I was enthralled and I’m so excited to do more work with zines. Thank you especially for linking articles on how youth are aware and fired up about social issues.
This workshop was an absolute 10/10 for me. I can’t thank you enough.

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
