20 Surrealism-inspired drawing prompts. Each drawing prompt also has a ‘Further Learning’ research task. There are two tasks on a page – see the example above.
Drawing prompts include everyday objects, strange animals, melting and floating, dreams and landscapes.
Some further learning tasks link generally to Surrealism, others to specific artists such as Rene Magritte, Slavador Dalí, Frida Kahlo, Max Ernst, Leonora Carrington, Méret Oppenheim and Paul Delvaux.
This is an ideal extra task for early finishers when studying the Surrealists or a sub-lesson for use when absent.
(The image of a snail with a city on its back is not included and is only to grab your attention!)
There are more Surrealist art lessons on The Arty Teacher website.
After studying Dali my student have difficulty breaking through the fear factor of trying to draw realistically but with fantasy as the concept this resource helps break their barriers to get it perfectly right. They have produced some very creative pieces.

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
