Good Example and Template
This resource, Seed & Seed Heads Mark Making creates a single page in a sketchbook, but as it takes over 10 lessons to complete and includes a broad range of media and skills, I am describing it as a mini unit of work. During this mini unit of work, students draw the seeds heads in a broad range of media, with a focus on mark making. This download includes:
Materials required: Soft Pencils, Fine Liners, Black Ball Point Pens, Crayola, Black Watercolour, Instant Coffee, Dip Pens, Black Ink. Optional: Ferby’s. This is a long list! Feel free to substitute media that you don’t have.*
There are many more units of work and natural forms art lessons on The Arty Teacher website.

This project is just what I was looking for as a mark-making exercise for textiles students that they can then translate into stitch.
The photos are excellent and a worked ‘Good Example’ is so helpful that I can put on screen for the class.
Thank you for such a well-thought out resource for a busy teacher!
Thank you for your feedback.

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
