  • This Was an Inspiring Resource!

I teach a dynamic drawing class for adults. I focus on drawing from real-life objects to enhance observation skills. When physical objects aren’t available, I use reference photographs from Arty Teacher for inspiration.

Recently, we studied and drew oyster shells using stunning, detailed photos. Before this, I hadn’t taken the time to observe an oyster shell, making the exercise enlightening and enjoyable.

We started with a structured lesson, using a pencil and a non-permanent marker to explore shapes and outlines. Students then suggested using charcoal and water for depth, before finishing with vibrant conte crayon to enhance their artworks. The results were unique and reflected each student’s style, creating an atmosphere full of excitement and creativity.

It was a joy to see their artistic growth, and I appreciate Arty Teacher’s resources, which support my teaching in public schools and my community art studio.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
