Description

This 12 slide PowerPoint looks at 5 different photographs that have strong one point perspective and introduces the term ‘Vanishing Point’.  It looks at two different famous paintings which also strongly use one point perspective.  It then sets a task to draw a road/landscape with one point perspective and the presentation carefully breaks this down this task into stages. The last slide suggests 4 possible homework tasks.

Included in this download:

  • A 19-Slide PowerPoint Presentation that illustrates one point perspective in photographs and art. It then guides students, step-by-step, in creating a drawing with one point perspective.
  • A Google Slides view-only link for quick, browser-based use (perfect for Chromebooks)

All the information required to deliver this lesson can be read directly from the slides.

This is a fabulous presentation. I just wished that the slides had been finished. The directions give examples for a horizon line, vanishing point, diagonal road, telephone poles, but ask students to draw fences, clouds, and trees without examples – the slides end with the telephone poles. I had no problem drawing the fences, trees, and clouds separately on the doc cam, but how great would it have been to have all the examples for the directions on the PP presentation while I had the students attention.

    Thank you for your feedback.

    • Hi Debora, I think you are right. I have updated the presentation to include every step for creating a road/landscape with one point perspective. I think originally I had thought students, after the first few steps would work independently. Now teachers can choose how much support they give.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
