How do you photograph ‘glow’ or ‘pause’?
This year’s November Photo Challenge is a fantastic way to get your students engaging with photography and creative thinking every single day. Each day in November comes with a fresh prompt designed to spark ideas — some are concrete and specific (like Hands or Doorway), some are seasonal or atmospheric (Golden hour, Frosted), and others are more conceptual and interpretive (Everyday magic, Broken symmetry).
The variety means your students can respond in ways that suit them best — some will take the prompts literally, while others will enjoy pushing them in playful or artistic directions. It’s a brilliant opportunity to encourage observation, imagination, and visual storytelling.
Whether you use it as a daily warm-up task, a homework project, or a way to build digital portfolios, the November Photo Challenge is flexible and engaging. Students can also share their images online with the hashtag #ArtyPhoto and see how people around the world have interpreted the same word.

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
