The video is 15 minutes long, the duration of the course is 3 hours to allow you time to complete the tasks within. The duration on the certificate will be 3 hrs.

Materials & Equipment Required:

  • A shallow box with a lid. This can be plastic, wood or even strong card. It needs to shut out all light. It needs to be larger than the largest size of paper that you would like to expose. e.g. slightly larger than A3 or tabloid. Under-bed storage boxes work well as long as they have a flat bottom to them.
  • Two 5m coils of UV light strip.
  • A sheet of heavy glass that is larger than your chosen paper size.
  • A glue gun.
  • A pen that writes on your box surface.
  • A long ruler.
  • Gaffer tape and card if your box has holes, eg hand holds that need to be blocked.

After making a UV Light Box, you should complete the Introduction to Cyanotypes online course and then check out all of the online professional development for art teachers here.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
