This is a simple task where students expand the images on the worksheet with their own drawings. This one is butterfly themed. It is great for a cover/sub lesson or would fit in nicely with your insect or natural forms units of work.
There are more sub/cover lessons on The Arty Teacher website.
I used this as a gauge to see my new students' knowledge of the 4 levels of shading. I teach students with all learning differences and some struggled to ways to fill the background. I will start this lesson next time with a shoulder partner share, "What are 3 items you could include in your background?"
They enjoyed sharing their art when they finished, and I heard comments about never thinking to make the wings extra large or include a waterfall or vines, etc.
This would be ideal to use the first day back after a holiday or spring break. They had so much fun!

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
