An Art Venn Diagram is a structured comparison worksheet where students analyse two artworks by writing about their differences on either side of the diagram and their similarities in the overlapping middle section. It is a simple but powerful way to develop comparative thinking in the art classroom.

This Edgar Degas Art Analysis Venn Diagram combines Art, Literacy and Maths in one accessible activity. Because a Venn diagram is a mathematical way of organising information, students are not only analysing artworks, but also categorising ideas, identifying patterns, and structuring their thinking logically.

Students use subject-specific vocabulary to compare technique, style, colour, context and meaning, first analysing each artwork individually before identifying similarities in the centre. This structured comparative approach develops clear written expression, logical organisation of ideas, and disciplinary literacy in art, while also supporting whole-school literacy and numeracy priorities through a mathematical framework.
