Transfer Techniques are so appealing! If you are an art teacher looking for new, exciting techniques to engage all of the learners in your class, becoming expert in transfer techniques is a great addition to your art toolkit.
The objective of this training is to equip you with a range of transfer techniques, using a range of media, and lots of project ideas.
Transfer techniques are methods of transferring newsprint, laser and inkjet images and text onto different surfaces such as paper, card, fabric or wood.
They have huge creative potential and are ideal if your students need fresh inspiration. They can be used for stand-alone projects or to extend existing projects.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Once you have watched the professional development, you will be able to download a certificate that includes your name, the name of the course, and the duration. The video is 1hr long, the duration of the course is 8 hours to allow you time to complete the tasks within and consider how you will integrate what you have learnt into your teaching. The duration on the certificate will be 8hrs.
When you download your certificate, it will automatically display that day’s date, and this cannot be changed later — so please only download it when you’ve fully completed the course or on the day you wish it to be dated.
Materials Required: You will need a range of general materials including scissors, newspaper, masking tape and a hair dryer for speedy drying. For the different transfer methods you will also need glue (PVA or Mod Podge) with a glue spreader, plain paper, card or grey board, scrap card, white and coloured acrylic paints, matt medium, a palette or plate, large and medium brushes, cotton wool or tissue, and optionally a water mist bottle. Some techniques require a metal or wooden spoon for burnishing, 100% acetone, and pieces of wood (around 20cm x 16cm or smaller, though cardboard can work as a substitute). For fabric transfers, use a cotton-blend non-shiny fabric in cream or white, and for sticky tape transfers you’ll need clear tape such as Sellotape or Scotch tape, ideally extra wide.

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.
I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.
I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
