Description

Cogs Sketchbook Pages

This Cogs Sketchbook Pages task was designed to build confidence and manual dexterity in lower-ability students, and also teach that sketchbooks can be experimental and playful.

During this task, students tear sketchbook pages to create a layered space to work in, add stencil drawings and cut out and collage images.

This project would be easy to adapt for mixed ability groups by including drawing or painting should you wish.

To complete this lesson, you will need some cog stencils. I used a lovely set which can be found on Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com #Ad

Included in this download:

  • A 10-slide PowerPoint that shows step-by-step images and instructions that support your students with every aspect of the task.
  • A Google Slides version of the presentation, view-only link for quick, browser-based use (perfect for Chromebooks)
  • 3 pages of cogs for collage, or they could be used as reference images for drawing or painting. Some images in this publication have been created using Ai.
  • A detailed lesson plan, full of good advice, to use in conjunction with the presentation.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
