Description

With this collaborative autumn leaves artwork, students work in groups with each student drawing a piece of the picture which combines to create a large artwork.  The lesson plan suggests you use watercolour and/or coloured pencil but you can, of course, use whatever media you like.  This resource comes in both A4 pieces and letter-size pieces.  The autumn leaves are ideal to create a seasonal short project or collaborative art club.

  • The 16 A4 pieces combine to make an A0 artwork.
  • The 16 letter-size pieces combine to make ANSI E size artwork.

This download includes:

  • A 16-page PDF of different pieces of the autumn artwork.
  • A lesson plan that includes: Preparation, introduction, demonstration, development, plenary, extension task.
  • An image of the autumn artwork to refer to.

There are more collaborative artworks on The Arty Teacher website that help develop teamwork skills.

  • Great way to build up to collaboration with AS 11-16AS pupils.

How do you get a classroom full of autistic spectrum kids that can’t tolerate each other to co-operate? Very slowly. But you can start with collaboration first. I used the cat version of this activity to introduce the concept of making something to fit the needs of someone else. The actual interactions are controlled and predictable for them, and a little social story to prepare them for how their contribution fits in turns a drawing activity into a massive leap in social interactions and resilience. The leaf one looks even better for this.

Sarah Crowther – The Arty Teacher

I set up The Arty Teacher because I have a passion for my subject that I want to share with other art teachers around the world.

I have been a high school art teacher for over 20 years, so I understand what it’s like to be in front of a class of students, often with very different abilities and attitudes.

I wanted to develop resources that would help teachers to bring out the best in every student in every class. I also wanted to free-up staff from time-consuming lesson preparation to let them focus instead on delivering exciting, motivating, dynamic lessons, supported by excellent resources.
